VITA / Tax Prep Program

NOTE: The online portal is now closed for new filings. This will allow us to finish returns already submitted by the April 15 deadline. The portal will reopen on May 1, 2024 and will remain open until October 22, 2024.

If you cannot wait until May, we can provide you with free filing options to complete your own return by April 15. To learn more about these self-filing options, email UnitedWayTaxPrep@UnitedWayNNJ.org or leave a message in English or Spanish at 973.993.1160, x5 and a tax specialist will return your call.

Please note: Current users can still access their accounts using the Get Started link below.

If you're ready...Let's get started! Please choose your option below:

The Online (Faster) Option

Our online intake process serves as a fast, secure, and convenient way to file your taxes. You simply need any internet-connected computer or smartphone. Once you finish submitting information and digitized/scanned documents, you will meet virtually with an IRS tax law-certified volunteer to answer any questions and review your return before it’s filed.

Need help?

If you're not ready yet for the online intake process, or you have questions or comments, that's ok, feel free to review our FAQs, learn more about the program, or contact us to schedule an appointment for virtual assistance.

The Offline (Slower) Option

If you do not have the technology readily available to use this portal via our online intake process, that's ok, we do offer other, offline options. Bear in mind, the following options will make the preparation of your tax returns much slower than using the online portal. The options below might also require you to visit the facilities of participating volunteer sites and/or rely on postal services. Limited drop-off appointments are available.

If you're still interested in an offline option, please choose one of the following:
